New Years Eve is a perfect evening for celebration and in many circles that celebration calls for a man's best clothing to ring in the new year. Due to the festive and rather loose rules surrounding most New Years Eve parties it is a great time to push one's boundaries when it comes to style and wardrobe and experiment with new ideas and colours!

Be Bold and Memorable

While many memories are bound to be a bit foggy on the morning after the ball drops in Times Square – New Years Eve presents amazing opportunities for flashy shirts, ties, and suits. Heavily pinstriped suits or perhaps even a white suit are perfectly acceptable for wear during this time – a full white suit being rarity in today's business community.

When it comes to dress or sport shirts – be daring. Aqua, pink, crimson, orange, and bright green are all fantastic colours that will draw a great deal of contrast and attention from your peers. Normally conservative men will draw a bevy of compliments from colleagues and associates who might be surprised as such a daring turn – while those that are already fashion forward will get the opportunity to show off their most beautiful pieces.

For a more casual approach, a merino wool mockneck sweater and a pair of dress corduroys will go over very well for more relaxed house parties – keeping you warm while retaining a sharp and mature look. Another bonus – sweaters are easily washable should one find themselves bathed in beer or champagne!

Accessories Ahoy!

Now is also the time to show off the new cufflinks – whether they be white gold or plastic roulette wheels. Kitch is certainly permitted, if for one night only, and a gentleman should feel free to break consevative convention wherever possible. Pocket squares in accompanying colours that match either one's dress shirt, tie, or perhaps even an accent colour in the suit are perfectly acceptable, indeed, they come highly recommended!

While it may not be necessary to overdo the cologne, it is highly recommended that you wear a quality fragrance for the evening's festivities – not only will it make an impression on those who you might be conversing with – or in the case of single gentlemen, perhaps might be interested in – but it will also keep one smelling nice for a bit longer than usual. This can be very important in many situations, especially given that most parties at home or at the pub are very crowded and hot.

While it may be prime time to show off the best that your closet may have to offer – it is important to remember the virtue of moderation in the other facets of a great new years party. Remember, break the convention, break the mould! With that in mind, please drink responsibly and drive safely – and above all, have fun and a happy new year!
