Great Spring Looks for Men, Fashion & Style 2009A New Year and a Bevy of Great New Shirts, Ties, Wardrobe Options!
Spring brings with it promise of a new year, a clean slate, and a return to colour in the general palette. Gone are the charcoals and shades of gray!
Men have it easy during the colder seasons of the year – one finely tailored coat will match nearly everything else! With the break of spring, things change quite a bit – and as we look forward to 2009 there are some extremely interesting changes ahead. This season heralds the return of bold, thick striping in both shirts as well as in casual pants and the return of colourful accenting as well. Spring neckwear is typically very bright and refreshing – predominantly in pastels for a softer look as well as some satin offerings in sky blue, verdant green, and finch yellow. Presenting some typical fashion stories and popular looks is often the easiest way to communicate a general style – by visualizing an accessible and affordable look one can do their best to emulate the aspects they agree with and perhaps substitute in areas where a suggestion might just be off the mark for their personal style and taste. The Cavalier CasualThis fashion story is predominantly concerned with fit, simple style, a look that fits in with a variety of social settings and circumstances. The anchor of the cavalier look is a trim, well fit spring jacket in leather, suede, or another quality material. The outerwear should be half-length, and while bomber jackets are not preferred they can certainly be substituted here if it more to one's individual taste. Denim or more darkly coloured casual pants are most appropriate for this look – casual pants looking great with black leather and denim tending to look a bit better with chocolate or coffee coloured jackets due to common washes. Denim is worn commonly with black leather, often with work jeans, and as such loses a great deal of impression and impact because of this. A brightly striped, stiff-collared sportshirt is really the eye candy – creating the “cavalier” in this look via a fun, bold movement away from the staid jacket and pants. The bonus to this particular style is that sportshirts are relatively inexpensive during this time of year – in many cases retailers will also have last years spring selection on sale for ~50% off or better! A more conservative compliment to this style would be a jersey knit mock-turtleneck in an ivory shade (for brown) or sky blue (in the case of a black jacket). Ivory and chocolate leather make for a beautiful and complimentary look on nearly any gentleman's torso and will, without a doubt, draw compliments. As for footwear, as long as it matches the colour of your pants and jacket (and, of course, the belt) it should be adequate. Sneakers do not compliment the finish of this look given your obvious attention to detail with the shirt and quality jacket so stick to proper shoes. The Season OpenerFor men with a more sartorial or executive edge, spring is an excellent time to purchase a quality overcoat, or lightweight topcoat. While a lightweight wool is also classic, rain resistant materials in synthetic fabrics are also acceptable for this season due to most climates encountering a good deal of precipitation during the spring season! Now is the time to begin investing in very lightweight cotton and linen shirts for both spring and summer. A wonderful spring selection of suits and blazers would include both smoke and sand – these two colours being extremely appropriate for the spring season. With a smoke coloured suit, being medium gray, a great match would be a pistachio or green dress shirt with a tie blending both the silver of the suit with the renewing connotations of such a soft green. For gentleman who would like to try the latest trend in wearing sand or lighter beige suits in the springtime – a gamut of options is really at one's disposal. Such suits are oft-times brightly and attractively striped in colours ranging from yellow to teal to even crimson and turquoise! It is very apparent that the trend in menswear is shifting aggressively towards a more liberal colour palette in order to appeal to a younger demographic – by all means this works to your advantage as a style icon in training! Tan suits, as a rule, work exceedingly well with french blue shirts as well as ivory, iceberg (a blending of mint and white), and aqua. Pairing neckwear with these suits can be fairly difficult but certainly not impossible. The season opener is a fashion story that is embodied by a bold, aggressive take on menswear – a man who is willing to embrace progressive trends and adapt to a greatly advanced colour portfolio!
