However, the four-it is slightly asymmetric, so it does not look good on wide collar shirts. 1. Turn up collar of your shirt and make sure that the top button is buttoned.
  2. Drape the tie around your neck with the wide end on your left and make sure that the wide end is extended about 12 inches (30.5 cm) lower than narrow end.
  3. Cross the wide end over the narrow end.
  4. Bring the wide end back underneath the narrow end.
  5. Cross the wide end over the narrow end once more.
  6. Put the wide end up through the bottom of the loop that has been formed by the tie and your neck.
  7. Bring the wide end back down through the loop in the front and pull it down as far as it will go.
  8. Hold the narrow end gently while slowly pushing the knot up until it reaches the center of the collar.

The Windsor Knot

The Windsor is the oldest tie knot, that is thick, wide and triangular. The Windsor is symmetric and works for any occasion also. But, in comparison to the four-in-hand knot, the Windsor creates a professional-looking knot, that looks especially good at business and political venues.
