Finding the nerve to wear this season's keynote colors may be a challenge to many men's masculinity.

In contrast to the monochromed winter of 2007, pink is hitting the runways of Paris and Milan in a big way. Fashion houses such as Calvin Klein and Bottega Venetta have used every shade of pink imaginable to give traditional cuts a flare and a splash of not-so-typical color.

Men's Styles and Colors for Spring & Summer 2008

Online fashion gurus, Leadfashion.com, feature some of the main designer trends we can expect for Spring-Summer 2008.

  • Fresh from the runways of Paris and Milan, muted orange is teemed cleverly with pastel and bold fucshia pinks, as demonstrated in Calvin Klein’s collection.
  • Safer, more classic colors of caramel and olive, keep the look neutral for trousers and shorts.
  • Classic black is shiny this year and black and silver gray color-blocked ensembles feature heavily for spring, provided they are in lightweight fabrics. White is still universally chic.

Shirts and Pants

  • Fitted and sheer shirts are in, along with bold button-down shirts in contrasting patterns. Light mauves, hot pinks and blues add soft detail to the hardest lines. Baggier, looser fitting trousers (Mike Hammer style) are a keynote style along with wide-legged and wrap-around pants.
  • Reminiscent of the first day at school, many fashion designers have incorporated short-shorts into their business suits. The look is a mixture of man-in-the-city and little boy. Salvatore Ferragamo goes one step further with his anyone-for-tennis meets best-man-at-the-wedding outfit.

Patent Leather

  • Rock star-inspired chic is also making a fashion statement this year. Roen’s lace up pants and leather jackets provide a contrast to the sportier collections featured on this season's runways. Patent leather is showcased by many designers but this look is not for everyone and is a throwback to the punk rocker days of the '70s, with many zipped features.

Accessories for Spring & Summer 2008

  • Avoid the herringbone and put away the houndstooth, but plaid is here to stay. Plaid accessories are big for Spring 2008, be they belts, shoes or flat caps. Bow ties are this year’s novel accessory.
  • Bags for the season include bus or satchel-type. Prada’s school satchel style comes in black, green and burgundy, whereas Bottega Venetta showcases creamy white.

Trends to Avoid in 2008

With short-shorts suits and patent leather pants, be careful not to let this season’s clothes wear you. Pick and choose the best of the trends and decide what flatters you most rather than appearing trendy but tacky.

In contrast to wearing Winter's monochromed retro styles, the subtle pinks, purples and orange pastels working together for spring and summer may convert even the most macho of males. The strongest of summer trends is pink and purple-hued printed tees and business shirts, and seersucker suits, which takes a strong man to wear them!
