With this year's reinvention of the retro style the old old is the new new! Monochromes, metallics, plaids and pinstripes - anything goes this winter.

Style columnist Joseph Rosenfeld, certified Image Professional, Association of Image Consultants International (AICI), states “This season everything old is made new, not by mere reintroduction but by the confluence of contemporary conventions.”

This year’s styles emphasize a relationship between old and new, classy and casual, lightweight and layers and clean cuts. Clothing which is as versatile in the office as it is in a bar, at a sports stadium or on that special date.

Winter Fashion Trends - Knitwear

  • Granddad-style cardigans with elbow patches, in cashmere and lightweight wool.
  • Clean, close-fitting sweaters which can be work under jackets or over turtlenecks.
  • Go for a sporty theme away from the slopes with ski-style chunky cotton knits.
  • Space-age sweaters in metallic colors influenced by Dolce and Gabbana.

Winter Fashion Trends – Pants

  • Match tapered jeans or pants with sharp, clean-cut sweaters. Winter fashion '07 favors a sleeker silhouette this year.
  • Pattern pants are back – pinstripe, twills, houndstooth and plaids. Flat-fronted not pleated.
  • Dark and light-colored jeans with superior styling.
  • Cashmere or corduroy is in, along with moleskin to give that aristocratic country air.

Winter Fashion Trends – Suits and Shirts

  • Bold or narrow pinstriped shirts teemed with narrow plaid ties. This year its okay to mix and match. Wear snazzy shirts with pinstripe pants but follow through with a single color to avoid looking like a clown.
  • Double-breasted or three-piece suits are back, with a very British feel.
  • '70s style military brass-buttoned blazers and large lapels in plaids and trendy tweeds.
  • Bronze metallic suits, Dolce and Gabbanna style.
  • Donatella Versace influenced, black, military-style coats and suits.

Winter Fashion Trends – Colors

  • Monochromed, classic tones are the business. Versatile black and white, and this season’s spin on gray.
  • Gray is now the young man's black From pewter to platinum, charcoal and smoky gray to the more subtle tones.
  • Put away those loud, vibrant colors; introduce earthy rich tones of browns, greens and plums to give an outfit a lift.

Winter Fashion Trends – Accessories

  • Pep up jeans with a striped belt in this season’s colors. Match them with chunky bracelets and necklaces in silver, but wear them large and many!
  • Go for a fun, funky-print trilby. The Jason Timberlake look is in.
  • Layer jewelry. Layering with class is this season’s keynote style.
  • Buckled boots give a military feel, to match those brass-buttoned blazers

This season’s fashion revival brings back the nostalgia of the early years. But this time it is not about a particular era, rather a mix of retro styles of the past. Pants are narrower, colors are smarter and layering is key. Mix patterns and styles to create an ensemble that screams classy and casual. One versatile outfit from sunrise to sunset.
