Wardrobe Items to Consider for Lazing Around the House after Work!

Dec 16, 2008 Nicholas Morine

Nothing can be more comfortable than well-appointed and quality loungewear in any number of styles and varieties.

From sweatpants and a t-shirt to a luxurious pair of cotton pyjamas – loungewear is certainly a facet to a gentleman's wardrobe that should not go unattended. Primarily worn for comfort, loungewear is an extremely personal decision but it does pay to know and consider all alternatives.

Class, Comfort, and Warmth – The Pyjama

A suit of pyjama's or PJ's may remind you of childhood or of more mature gentleman – the fact is that pyjamas are suitable for men of all ages and are usually considered the most comfortable to wear due to loose construction and in the case of flannel, warmth.

A wonderful benefit of the pyjama is that they are relatively inexpensive, cheaper ones at department stores typically costing between $10 and $20 and upwards. During the colder winter months, flannel pyjamas are an excellent solution to loungewear – providing great warmth and textural comfort on bare skin as well.

Cotton pyjamas are a bit more coarse, though by all means still very comfortable – and may be more appropriate in warmer climes or during the hotter months of the year. Cotton is a very breathable fabric when presented in a quality garment and as such will prevent you from overhearting underneath the sheets!

About Casual Loungewear and Some General Tips

Lounge bottoms with matching t-shirts are becoming increasingly popular in many areas, particularly with younger men. Ranging in style from licensed material such as Family Guy or The Simpson to more conservative solid colours – lounge bottoms and sleepwear sets are making a large comeback.

Essentially lighter-weight sweatpants, lounge bottoms are extremely comfortable and often feature elastic waistbands for additional room. While perhaps not as neat looking as the classic pyjama suit, this pairing is great for kicking around the house in without having to worry one whit about appearances. A few notes on both categories of sleepwear follows:

  • Casual loungewear is typically not offered in designer brands, though with regards to pyjamas there are a multitude of designer options.
  • Pyjamas or athletic sleepwear can be a real accent to your wardrobe and allow your daytime clothes a bit of rest on the rack while you relax and enjoy your evenings!
  • Pyjamas take a great deal of wear and tear - they are clothes that are meant to be lived in and broken in. As such they are very low-maintenance items to keep in a wardrobe and are a great stress reliever.
