Springtime is a period of fashion renewal and one of the most immediate changes to one's entire wardrobe. A well constructed fashion story can clue you in to new trends!

Springtime is a great time to explore a more casual and comfortable side as well – focussing on earthy colours with a touch of vibrance and fecundity that will bring life into your associations as well as into your closet.

The Relaxed Academe

A very professorial style that is becoming very popular amongst men of all ages, this fashion story works beautifully for men who have a reputation for a clean-cut and relaxed, approachable image. For spring-time, try a pair of standard fit corduroys in a fine gauge – perhaps in a thin pencil stripe or herringbone pattern. Brown would be advisable in it's entire range of shades but olives can certainly work as well for more mature gentlemen.

V-neck sweaters or perhaps a thin cardigan worn with casual pants and topped off with a snugly fitted sport or dress would be a very sharp and clean look to compliment most men. An ivory or very light beige sweater or cardigan in an argyle print would work famously with a solid coloured sport or dress shirt – a striped shirt also being an option that would really embolden the overall image quite a bit, so feel free to do so. The necktie is optional and is a matter of individual consideration – certainly it would look fabulous in this instance if paired according to the general rules of taste and discretion.

The bonus? The sleeves can be rolled to the elbow to add a more youthful flair to the look if one finds it to be somewhat upscale.

Leather loafers in a chocolate brown in a conservative square toe would be ideal to finish off this fashion story – loafers becoming more and more popular each year both for comfort and for a more modern style. Say goodbye to laces, fellows, because it's quite likely more men will choose slip-on footwear this year.

Some General Tips for Spring Fashion Trends

Spring really is a season of colour. Although present with a trio of completely wearable looks that would fit right in as worn on a couture mannequin, a few general tips are in order for those men who prefer to create their own image from scratch and would like a few guidelines to keep in mind when fashioning a wardrobe for this rejuvinative season.

  • Be wary of black. Black is a colour best suited for evening wear in the summer, and generally is a colour best suited for formalwear or outerwear during the winter months. Most colours offered to men in the springtime are very soft pastels or earth-tones, colours that will not do well in competition with such a severe noir. If black must be worn – limit it to a single piece of clothing at once, such as a necktie, cardigan, or pants.
  • Purchase thinner, more lightweight garments. Most menswear outlets will be liquidating their older stock from autumn and winter seasons – be careful to purchase items that will be comfortable in a warming outdoor climate and will remain comfortable, as opposed to stifling, throughout your day. Linen and fine cottons are excellent choices for the spring and summer seasons.
  • Take a step forward. Invest in your fashion horizons by overcoming a particular grudge you might hold towards a typical item of clothing – perhaps the sweater vest, the mock turtleneck, or even the concept of bright, bold colours. Adding unorthodox and unexpected items to your clothing rotation will catch a few eyes both amongst your acquaintances, associates, and closest friends. Having a progressive attitude towards fashion trends and your own personal taste will serve you very well during the season of colour and reinvention!
