What to Wear for Men in Hot Weather

How Men Should Dress in Warmer Climates

Warm weather can inspire some of the most egregious fashion disasters in men.

When you can wear flip flops and tees from now through September—just about anything goes, right? Wrong, just because it’s fashionable that doesn’t mean everybody can wear it. And when it boils down to what America is doing wrong with fashion, some men may need an extra push. There are dos and don’ts to what you wear in every climate and they began with avoiding simple things first.

Long T-shirts

Just because it’s warm outside, doesn’t mean just any old shirt will do. If your t-shirt is long, make sure to never tuck it in your pants. Long t-shirts are a major distraction and they create bulkiness. If the t-shirt compliments the contour of your body and doesn't pass your fly, you have found the right tee. Tips for searching for the right t-shirt is to try it on before wearing and to make sure it doesn't reveal too much skin when you stretch or bend over.

Long Pants

When dressing for warmer temperatures make sure you try on your pants before buying them. Different brands can have slightly different lengths. Pants should not pass the bottom of your shoe's heel. In most warm climates, pants are only worn in a professional environment and do not reveal skin or a sock when you walk. When shopping for a long pant, be sure to try them in front of a dressing mirror or have a friend or significant other to determine if your pants are too long and revealing too much around the ankle whenever you stand or sit down.

Wrinkled Shirts

Every man should own an iron! But if you're traveling, you can do a quick-and-dirty ironing job by lightly spraying water on the wrinkles, heating the area with a blow dryer and smoothing it with your hand.

Socks With Sandals

Wearing socks with sandals is an absolute no-no! Get rid of the socks! If you need socks but still want to take advantage of the warm weather, wear an ankle-length shoe with a canvas sneaker.

Climate Change

If you live or relocate to a warm climate, find out how the locals are dressing. This doesn’t mean everyone in your new city are fashion gurus, quite the contrary, it just means it's now easier for you to store clothes away that you don’t plan to wear in your new climate. The farther away you store your pea coat from that linen shirt, the less likely you are to create a fashion faux pa by wearing them together.
